Who I Am
Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, I’m a theatre artist and writer currently based in Texas. I’m a graduate from the University of Texas at Arlington, where I majored in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Musical Theatre and double-minored in History and English.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had my head in books and my heart in the arts. When I wasn’t reading about Percy Jackson or the Bailey School Kids, I was humming along to the car radio, or glued to the screen whenever musicals like The Wizard of Oz or Grease played. From skits at church to short plays in school, I performed whenever I could – I even learned how to play violin and some piano on the way! One trip to New York only sealed the deal, and now theatre is my passion as much as it is a career.
As a girl from a small border community, it has been an adventure getting to learn more about the possibility and future for the arts. Training at UTA not only allowed me to learn more about technique and theory of the arts, but allowed me to delve into my creativity and see my own ideas come to life even outside of school. Because of my degree, I have been able to write my own plays, work with wonderful artists and theatres like Amphibian Stage or Florida Studio Theatre, and even travel to MIT (yes, that MIT) to devise a theatrical performance based on creative research and queer-feminist-antiracist design. I have been lucky to have mentors and peers that encouraged me to be completely authentic and trust in my craft, while also pushing me to achieve more than that little bookworm in the Valley ever thought possible.
Simply put, I love stories. Watching them, hearing them, reading them, and most importantly, telling them. By pen or presence, I crave digging into new territory. I am always eager to meet new people and find new pieces of art, from the whacky to the gritty, because every story – just like every person – is unique and worth knowing.

"Life beats down and crushes the soul, and art reminds you that you have one."
